Dr. David Neal Baron
1941-2022
Dr. David Neal Baron – 81, of Glenmont passed away
peacefully at home on August 26, 2022. Born in Luton,
England, he was a son of the late Joseph and Winnifred
(McShane) Baron.
David received his Professional Engineer Designation through
British Motor Corporation (BMC) and Brookes College in Oxford,
England. During his apprenticeship he met his wife, Judith, who was
studying abroad at the time, and (upon completion at BMC) followed her
back to Vancouver, Canada in 1964. David decided to further his
education in Canada and, in 1968, was part of the first graduating
class of Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. He and
Judith made the decision to move across the country to Halifax, Nova
Scotia, where he earned his MA and PhD from Dalhousie University. A
job offer in the English Department at Acadia University moved the
family to Kentville, Nova Scotia, where they raised their three
daughters. Eleven years ago, he and Judith built a house on the brow
of the mountain in Centreville, NS, where they enjoyed a beautiful
view of the Valley and where he spent his final days.
Sports, especially those that were played outside or involved
a raquet, squash and tennis in particular, were a passion for David.
Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, and hiking were
also favorites, and he enjoyed nothing more than doing these
activities with his family.
David maintained a very close relationship with his family
who are scattered over Canada, England, France and Switzerland.
Friendships from his younger years in England, his time in British
Columbia, and of course, Nova Scotia were deeply valued, and he
greatly enjoyed reminiscing about stories from the distant and more
recent past that involved both family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judith (Myers); daughters,
Michelle Baron (Glyn Jones), Vancouver; Margot (Blair) Day, Littleton,
Colorado; and Melissa (Jesse) Brotz, North Vancouver; sister,
Christine Adams, England; sister-in-law, Marie-José Baron,
Corsica, France; brother, Paul (Alison) Baron, England; grandchildren,
Tiernan and Oliver Day, and Cole and Ryder Brotz; as well as eight
nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his
brother, Geoff Baron, and brother-in-law, Mackie Adams.
The family would like to thank Dr. Craig White and all of the
doctors, nurses and support staff who helped him over the years. A
special thank you to the Annapolis Valley VON and Palliative Care Team
who have helped beyond the call of duty.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 2,
2022 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, with a video webcast
available at that time. Donations in memory may be made to the
Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
