Obituary
Douglas Walter Chopey was born on March 30th, 1985, in Edmonton, Alberta. He passed away suddenly in Edmonton after a motor vehicle accident on August 14, 2022 at the age of 37 years.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Devon Bonnell; children Ryley and Dominic; stepchildren Drayton (Solina) and Derrion (Katie); step-grandson Xandar; mother Karen Chopey; father Edward Inglis (Loretta); brother Mathew Chopey; father in-law Ken Bonnell; sister-in-law Kendall Bonnell (Aaron); brother-in-law Justin Bonnell; aunt Carol Kennedy (Joe); uncle Scott Chopey; cousins Aimie and Sasha; and very special mention of his loving Godmother Bev Krause. He is also fondly remembered by numerous extended family and many friends.
He was predeceased by grandparents Lorna and Bill Chopey and Joyce and Norman Inglis; uncle Randy Inglis; mother-in-law Debbie Bonnell; stepchild Tye Bonnell; and his Godfather Roger Krause.
Douglas was liked by everyone who met him. He will always be remembered for his infectious laugh, dry witty sense of humor, and his love of family and friends. Douglas was a jack-of-all-trades; he worked construction, enjoyed mechanics, and was happiest working on heavy equipment.
Douglas had a huge heart; there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for his family and friends. Through Douglas’ battle with addiction, his kindness, big heart, and love for his family always radiated through.
Douglas’ ashes will be laid to rest with his grandmother, Lorna Chopey, in a private ceremony at a later date.
A celebration of his life for friends and family to gather and share memories will be held at a time and place to be announced in the summer of 2023.
Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to STARS Air Ambulance (1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, AB T2E 8M7) or Saving Grace Animal Society (4932 50th Ave, Alix, AB, T0C 0B0)
