Obituary
We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our Father, Douglas (Lefty) Fraleigh, on Saturday August 20, 2022, at Peterborough Hospice. Doug is now with the love of his life, Madge, who predeceased him in 2016. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters: Lynn (Jim), Barb, Beth (Jeff), Carole (Terry), Mary Ellen (Rich); 10 grandchildren: Charlie, Miles (MariEve), Nicholas (Katie), Tyler (Sarah), Lee (Austen), Becky (Andrew), Brad (Megan), Sammy (Ellie), Brett (Molly), Gabby (Sabrina); 8 great grandchildren: Shantol, Kaylar (Maher), Novah, William, Leo, Jack, Londyn, Brooklyn and 2 great-great grandchildren: Isa and Asiyah; brother Don, sister Mary Ellen (Dick), along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Doug was predeceased by his parents: Harry and Mary Ellen, and his older brother Harry. He worked for Ontario Hydro for 36 years and happily retired in 1986 to begin a new adventure with Madge. Dad loved playing and coaching hockey in his younger years, playing golf, traveling with Madge, skating until Covid and creating in his gardens. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with family and friends on his patio, sharing a cold drink and stories from his past. Dad had a long full life and often said, “If you have a wonderful partner, 5 loving daughters, your health and live in a great country, what more do you need!” Doug’s family would like to thank the staff on D2 at PRHC, his care during his stay there showed compassion and kindness, the staff at Peterborough Hospice, in particular Melissa, Sebastian and Dave for their care for Dad and us during his short stay, Dad’s neighbours who looked out for him and were always there to share in his day: Dave and Brenda, Wally and Cathy, Dave Walker, Carolyn, Sandy, Mary, Gus, Chris and Pam (friends from D2), his friends from senior’s skating and all those who touched his life through his 93+ years.
Cheers, Dad! We will miss you but have peace knowing you and Mom are together again.
A private family service will be held at Highland Park Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made in memory of Doug to Peterborough Hospice or D2 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
