Douglas G. Lynch
July 19, 2022
Douglas G. Lynch, age 65, died on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Doug had lived with glioblastoma for eight months, inspiring his family and friends with kindness and calm.
Doug was retired from Halifax Regional Municipality where he managed water and waste water treatment at Aerotech, holding one of the highest certifications in the province.
Following his retirement from HRM Doug built and operated an equestrian facility together with his wife. He was instrumental in hosting dressage competitions and clinics with world renowned clinicians. He also had a great interest and pride in breeding top quality Hannoverian horses. Doug and his horse Savanah did very well competing in Equestrian Canada dressage shows. Doug retired from the equine world this past spring.
A life long lover of motorcycles, Doug spent many happy hours on his bike. The friends and memories he made with the local Harley group were treasured. These friends gave him great comfort and support over the past months.
Doug was a huge animal lover who would go to any lengths to make sure his animals – horses, dogs and cats – were well cared for. Every morning, no matter the weather or what else was going on, Doug took the dogs for a walk. Two of his three cats would tag along too.
One of Doug’s most striking characteristics was his ability to fix or build almost anything. Together with his brother Greg he built the indoor arena at his horse facility, one of the largest in eastern Canada. Fixing tractors and vehicles, welding, water systems, manure management, storage buildings, arena audio visual systems, cutting firewood, building and fixing computers – all in a day’s work for Doug.
Doug enjoyed history and had a history degree from Saint Mary’s University. He was a member of the East Hants Historical Society for a number of years and assisted greatly in refurbishing the Selma Museum.
Doug loved taking his grand daughter for tractor rides, eating sushi, making us laugh with his goofy humour, watching Coronation Street and sipping an occasional beer with friends. He was a kind, good man. He will be missed.
Doug is survived by his wife Carol Macomber, daughter Michelle Kelly, grand daughter Kara Kelly, parents Douglas and Shirley Lynch, and siblings Doreen Gouchie, Donna Lynch, Gary Lynch and Greg Lynch.
Doug was preceded in death by his first wife Genevieve, mother of Michelle.
