Obituary
Dorothy Rose Peltomaki, born January 29, 1946 – died July 30, 2022
Loving wife of 56 years to Leslie Peltomaki. Beloved mother to Denise, Kevin (Karen), and Sherry. Caring grandmother to Nathan, Josiah, Isaiah, Halen, Telia and Lily, and great grandmother to Basil. She loved her grandchildren deeply.
Dorothy was born to Fred & Elsie Farrow and had many siblings, some pre-deceased and others still living. She remained closest to her sister Betty throughout the years.
At a very young age, she found her home and life with Bill & Mabel Wilston, who provided her with a loving and stable home. She became sisters and dear friends with Sharon Holland.
Dorothy met Leslie Peltomaki on a train from Toronto, when she sat down beside him. Les was so smitten that he went from bank to bank on the Toronto Danforth to find her again, after that initial ride together. They married on December 31st, 1966, and built a life and family together in the Muskoka area, and recently moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario.
The words that best describe Dorothy are; strong, brave, steadfast, resourceful, consistent, kind, dedicated, faithful and loving. She had a deep personal faith in God and faithfully served in the church and her community. She volunteered in many ways over the years (Crusaders, Salvation Army stores & the kettlebells). She was known for her love of knitting and was well known for her famous bunny rabbit sweaters. She and Les owned and ran local craft stores in both Huntsville & Bracebridge. You would often find her working on a puzzle or beaded artwork, or counting the planes overhead on a daily basis. Her love for Christian fiction allowed her husband to spoil her with the latest Karen Kingsbury books.
Recently she was asked if she believed in soul mates and she said “yes” and looked over to her husband Les. They found and built a love that stood the test of time. When she found out that she had cancer in January 2018, Les stood by her side and doted on her continually. Dorothy fought a good fight and peacefully entered heaven on the morning of July 30th.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
An intimate graveside burial will take place at Ullswater Cemetery at 1289 Old Parry Sound Road, in the township of Muskoka Lakes on _____August 5th__________________ at __1pm___.
