Dorothy Barnett died quietly and peacefully on Dec 31, 2021. She was 96. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Derek, of 58 years, her parents, Ernest and Sadie Adamson, and her brother, Jim Adamson. She is survived by her four children, Ralph (Sally),Diane Stoner (Paul), Carol (Fernando Rey), and Stephen (Sandra), eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Dorothy grew up on a farm just outside of Hampton and trained as a teacher. She briefly taught at Providence School in rural Bowmanville before her marriage in 1950. The Barnett family lived in north-east Oshawa for several years before moving to a farm near Orono. Dorothy loved rural life. She enjoyed large family dinners, produced fabulous vegetables, fruit, and flowers in her very large garden, and continuously volunteered in the community into her nineties. She knitted hundreds of mitts that were donated to the Scott Mission in Toronto. She also made many quilts that she donated to a men’s hostel in Oshawa. Singing in her church choir (Orono) and participating in church activities were always part of her busy life.The family misses her and cherishes her memory. Many thanks to the staff and management at Champlain Manor (Orillia) for keeping her safe and comfortable in her last few months.
