LIVSEY, Dorothy “Helen” –
Passed away on March 2, 2022 at the age of 82. A survivor of 3 bouts of breast cancer, she was a brave and independent woman who lived a full and joyful life. Born in Chatham, Ontario to Ross and Luella Agar in 1939 as the youngest sister to Marilyn and Fran and older sister to Brian, Helen excelled at school and became a nurse at age 17.
Wanting to explore new things she moved to Vancouver, British Columbia for a nursing job where she met and married Al Livsey. Together they moved to Edmonton where they bought a house and had two children, Jill and Karla. Helen spent 15 tireless years looking after the kids, making lunches, leading Brownie and Guide troops and sewing costumes for dance competitions. There are many fond memories of dinner parties, camping trips and family fun.
In 1980, the family began a new adventure in Toronto, Ontario. For Helen this meant a return to nursing. She was honored to work as a nurse with the Bloorview Children’s Hospital and had many fond memories of all the kids that she interacted with there. Retirement meant a move back west and 20 years on the Sunshine Coast enjoying life with new friends and visits from grandchildren. Helen and Al moved back to Ontario in 2014 to be able to spend more time with family.
Helen was predeceased by her sister Marilyn Armstrong and her granddaughter Olivia Khashmanian. She is survived by her sister Fran Buncombe; her brother Brian Agar; her husband Al Livsey; her daughters Jill Khashmanian and Karla Kolli, their spouses Rob Khashmanian and Tom Kolli; and grandchildren Jacob Khashmanian, Sam Khashmanian, Ben Kolli and Erika Kolli.
A celebration of life will be held in Chatham at a later date with a burial at Arnold Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.
