It is with great sadness the family of Dorothy Ellen Bickle, 87 announce her peaceful passing at Stratford General Hospital on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Dorothy was born on July 6, 1934 a daughter of the late Tom and Mildred (Prudham) Langdon.
Dorothy married Eric William Bickle on February 7, 1959 and together with their family they would have been celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary. Together they lived and farmed on the 11th line of East-Zorra Tavistock.
Dorothy is survived by her five children, Margaret Townsend (Ross), Harold Bickle (Kelly), Edward Bickle (Michelle), Jeanette Murray (Jeff), James Bickle (Jacinthe).
Fond memories of Dorothy will be treasured by her grandchildren, Ross Townsend Jr., Teresa Weicker (Jeremy), Keith Townsend (Christy), Steven Townsend (Amanda), Jessica Nyenhuis (Scott), Mark Bickle (Janice), Derek Bickle, Alyssa Bickle (Mark), Ashley Bickle (Logan), Grant Bickle (Anna), Nicole Miller (Suad), Daniel Miller, Lilyrose Bickle.
Dorothy also leaves behind special relationships with her great grandchildren, RJ and Michaela Townsend; Maisy, Reese, Natalee and Cassidy Weicker; Olivia, Nathan and Halle Townsend; Nathan, Ryan and Grace Nyenhuis and Emira Murselli.
She will also be sadly missed by her brother, Arnold Langdon (Mary); her sister Gladys Leenders (Richard); her sister-in-law Kathleen Bickle. She was predeceased by her sister Evelyn Sherran and brothers-in-law, Earl Sherran and Olin Culbert; her brother-in-law Frank Bickle; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Illa and Maurice Schmidt.
Dorothy was the heart of her family, she wholeheartedly and unconditionally loved them all. Her door was always open to family, friends and neighbours. She was an excellent role model; hardworking, resourceful, generous, thoughtful and caring. Dorothy was known for her delicious, homecooked meals; her love of refinishing old furniture; she loved to be outdoors tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and helping with lawn cutting. Eric and Dorothy spend many weekends travelling all over Ontario attending Fiddle and Stepdance competitions. Dorothy was a member of the Anna P. Lewis Institute; Tavistock & Area Horticultural Society; and Southwestern Ontario Fiddle & Stepdance Association.
Special thank you goes out to the nursing staff and doctors of Stratford General Hospital 3rd floor stroke unit for all the care they provided Dorothy.
A private family visitation and service was held at Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock.
