Hanley, Doris Marie (nee Laurie)
Passed away peacefully on September 6, 2022, at 92 years of age. Predeceased by her husband Bill ( – February 2022), Doris (like Bill) left this world in the home they built and nurtured for 70 years. Loving mother of Wayne Hanley (Emmanuelle Lopez), Gail Hotham (Charlie) and the late Gregory Hanley. Proud Grandmother of Jennifer (Wally), Michael, Brett (Lindsay), Craig, Andrea (Val), Jason (Shannon), Scott, Daniel, Taylor, (Chris), Mariana, Casandra. Proud Great Grandmother of Bailee, Jack, Maddy, Noah, Caoimhe, Sophia, Evan, Jace, Bennett, Zoey, Griffin, Adelaide, Landon, Arwen. She will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Doris was born in Blenheim and moved to Windsor with their family when she was a young teenager. After graduating, she worked in the cash office at Woolworth and later Woolco. She eventually left this work to fulfill her life’s mission raising her three children.
Doris was the heartbeat of the home and the glue of the family. She led by example in showing unconditional love, strength and kindness. Doris was an optimist who could always be seen with a cheerful smile on her face. She lived a fulfilled life as a mother, sister, wife and friend to many. Those who knew her describe her as a humble and gentle soul. Doris was immensely proud of her family. She could always be seen with a camera in her hand. Her vast collection of pictures, photo albums and slideshows will provide everlasting memories to those she loved.
Throughout her life, Doris was an avid card player, puzzle maker, crossword solver and Sudoku champion. She loved to travel and her vast collection of mugs, glasses and postcards is a reminder of the places she visited. Doris took great joy in spending quality time with her family and was always up for a challenge.
An extra special thank you to the amazing caregivers from St. Elizabeth, Liz, Christine, Melissa, Sherrie, Temi, Dan, Joe, Faith, Pauline, and Victoria. Thanks also to Adriana from Paramed (Doris’ nurse), Stephanie, and Jada from VON, as well as, Laurie Ann, Erica, Brenda, Ola, Kaitlyn and Devon from Home Instead. Lastly, to Dr. J. Price, Dr. Hamm from the Cancer Clinic, and Dr. Burgess and his staff from Hospice. Your continued support, care, kindness and compassion to Doris’ homecare over the last 3 years was amazing. We were blessed to have you all with us during Doris’ journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doris’s name to the Hospice of Windsor.
Cremation and a private family service has taken place.
