Doris Jean Hicks (nee Derry), RN
Peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 26, 2022, in her 86th year. Beloved wife of Bob Hicks for 63 years, and mother of David (Karen), Tom, and Philip (Darlene). Loving grandmother of Sarah, Matthew (Brandi), Andrew, Lucas and Julia. Great grandmother of Grayson, Wesley and the late Liam. Daughter of the late Gordon and Alice (nee Devolin) Derry. Dear sister to Glen, Bob, her twin brother Don (deceased), Sylvia Boudreau (Laurie), Sharon Coens (Leonard), and Shirley Sager (Bob). Doris was a graduate of Lorne Park College and St. Joseph’s school of Nursing (Class of 1958), and recipient of the Dr. McNulty Award for operating room proficiency. Her career was dedicated to nursing at both St. Joseph’s and Civic Hospitals in Peterborough, concluding with retirement in 1996, from her 1st love – “new born intensive care”. She was a life long member of the Free Methodist Church and a dedicated member of the church’s children’s program. Friends and family will be received at the HIGHLAND PARK FUNERAL CENTRE (2510 Bensfort Rd., Peterborough) on Monday, January 2, 2023 from 2:00 – 5:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 2 p.m. in the Highland Park chapel. Interment and reception to follow. In memory of Doris and in lieu of flowers, donations to Five Counties Children’s Centre, the Yes Shelter for Youth, or the charity of your choice, would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to Dr. Webster, Dr. Lindsay, Dr. Sharif, Dr. Zukowski, Dr. Jeyabalan and the entire palliative team at PRHC and Saint Elizabeth Health.
