Obituary for Donna Merle Lillian Rizzo (nee Whitehead)
Peacefully on Sunday April 3, 2022, Mom passed away in her 85th year. Predeceased by her loving husband Samuel of 64 years. Loving mother of JoAnn, Karen (Tom), Sandra (Joe), and Sam (Karen). Devoted grandma of Michael, Samantha, Leanne (Nat), Michelle, Julia, John, Anthony, Sam, Nick, Angelo and Destin. Great-grandmother to Emma, Samuel, and Theadora. Mom was predeceased by her siblings Ethel (Don), Walt (Eleanor), Audrey (Bill), Jim (Glenna), and Bernice (Doug). Loving sister-in-law to Louise (and the late Sante Cervini). Her parents, Ernest and Florence, were both born in England, and immigrated to Canada in the early 1900’s. What a surprise it must have been when she married into a big Italian family! Never one to back down from a challenge, she mastered cooking Italian food, a talent she passed on to her four kids. She taught us well with her can-do spirit and strong work ethic. There was nothing mom couldn’t do. When we were in high school, she decided to return to college for a medical office assistant diploma which led to a career as a ward clerk at the Henderson Hospital. We have so many great memories of times she made special like Christmas Eve with late night drop ins by friends and family (everyone was welcome); favourite meal and homemade cake on our birthday; and matching outfits that she sewed for special occasions. She devoted her life to her family, and mom loved us dearly. She was our hero, role model, teacher, and biggest cheerleader. She will be forever remembered by her family and friends. We would like to thank her caregivers at Willowgrove for their kindness and attention to her needs. Family and Friends are invited to a prayer service and celebration of her life at Circle of Life Cremation and Burial Centre at 100 King Street East, Dundas on Wednesday April 6th at noon with lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of your choice.
