Obituary of Donald Nelson Thorne
It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Nelson Thorne announces his passing, which occurred on September 7, 2022 at The Sus Health Centre. Born in Havelock, NB, on November 24, 1928, he was a son of the Late Alden and Clara (McEwen) Thorne.
Don is survived by his three daughters: Donalda Storey and her husband Harry of Berwick, Lori Webb of Sus and Patsy Shay of Alberta; his brother, Eldon and his wife, Marilyn, of Sus Corner; his four grandchildren: Allison Rehel, Kristin Shay (Matthew Besharah), Tommy Storey and his wife, Heather, and Holly Lackie and her husband, Derek; and his four great grandchildren: Brooke and Colton Storey and Paislee and Georgia Besharah; as well as several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by His wife, Aileen; his brother, Pearson; and his sister, Elsie.
Don was employed with NB Power in 1948, where he worked over a span of 40 years. Beginning on the pole crew, he went through the ranks to a lineman, crew foreman, foreman of terminal and substation, head of inventory for the province, Point LePreau, and retired from inventory. Don was a member of Zion Lodge #21 – F and AM, and the Royal Canadian Legion Sus, Branch #20.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sus, NB (506-433-1176). A celebration of Don’s life will take place at St. Paul’s United Church, 430 Main St. Sus, NB (506-432-1114) on Monday, September 12 at 11:00am. Interment will take place in Riverbank Cemetery following the service and reception.
