Obituary
Donald Ian Morrison
North River Bridge
With Heartfelt sadness, we the family announce the passing of Donald Ian Morrison, age 81 on Tuesday February 15, 2022 at the Northside Community Guest Home after years of struggling with the cruel and degrading disease of Alzheimer’s. Donald was a kind, caring, polite and mannerly man who dearly loved his wife and family.
After various Jobs beginning in his father’s store, Donald’s main career was a Tax Collector for Victoria County with his office being in the Court House in Baddeck. He was a gracious host for many family dinners, gatherings with friends and parties with square dancing in the kitchen, Duncan prompting. He enjoyed the barbeque crowd get togethers and the many dances in Indian Brook and Baddeck. Special thanks to his friends who came faithfully to play crib at his home. He was particular about his appearance and he knew how to wear a kilt.
Donald loved cars and he loved driving them. Driving Through Canada, the U.S., the British Isles and Continental Europe was no problem for him. Other special memories were trips to Bermuda, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland. Following his retirement, he and Pamela ran a Bed and Breakfast out of their home for 17 years. Donald thoroughly enjoyed meeting people from all over the world. Donald was a life long member of St. Ann’s United Church. He was an elder and clerk of session. He sat on the building committee when the three churches in St. Ann’s Bay merged into one. These meetings were held in his home.
He leaves behind his wife of 58 years Pamela (MacDonald) and their daughters Deborah Morrison, Coxheath; Vanessa (Roger) Cloutier; and their son Simon, Burlington, Ontario. Also, his sisters Norma (Robert) Barradell, Calgary, Mildred Morrison, Halifax; and Elizabeth (Francis) Ryan, North River Bridge.
Donald was predeceased by his wonderful parents Jessie Effie and A.J. Morrison.
Many thanks to the home care workers who helped keep Donald in his home for several years. A big thank you to the staff in Munroe Place for your care.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a visitation from 1-2 pm on Sunday February 27, 2022. Due to Covid regulations the Funeral service will be private. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to St. Ann’s Bay United Church or the Alzheimer’s Society.
