Donald Frank Conrad
1937-2022
Donald Frank Conrad – age 85, of
Wolfville, passed away in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville on
Sunday, August 28, 2022 with his children by his side. Born in
Gaspereau, he was a son of the late Frank and Grace (Jodrey)
Conrad.
Donald was a life-long dairy farmer and loved
farming. He sat on the Board of Directors of Farmer’s Dairy,
held various positions including President of the NS Animal Breeders
Association, and was a member of the West Nova Holstein 400 Club.
After retirement he sold Pickseed for a number of years and was
awarded the highest sales in the Maritimes for six consecutive years.
He was a long-time parishioner of St. John’s Anglican
Church, Wolfville, serving on many committees and often visiting with
parishioners on the church’s prayer list. He was a member of
the Interchurch Housing Society helping individuals into their own
homes. He was very involved with genealogy and had extensive records
that he loved to share with family, friends and the community. He
enjoyed attending horse pulls and researching back roads and abandoned
settlements. He was an avid gardener. He always had vegetable gardens
he loved to harvest and share with neighbours and friends.
He also was coaxed into helping his wife with her many flower gardens,
which he enjoyed guiding visitors throughout. He was a proud supporter
of 4-H and encouraged involvement within the community. He loved
hockey and played on various teams throughout his life, including the
Wolfville Falcons and Old Timers league. Don loved to
travel. He was quite the comedian and entertained many with
various pranks and tales of the past. Above all else, he loved his
family and spending time with his grand and great grandchildren. He
would light up whenever they were around and enjoyed teaching them
about life skills.
Donald is survived by his children, Kevin
Conrad of Kentville, Art Conrad (Lisa Pynn) of Baxter’s
Harbour and Mary Lou Conrad (Murray Martin) of Hantsport; siblings,
Gwen (Bill) Sweet of Wolfville, Paul (Carol) Conrad of Bridgewater,
Linda (Bob) MacDonald of Cape Breton and Laurie (Geneva) Conrad of
Kentville; sister-in-law, Kay Conrad of Melanson; grandchildren, Nadea
(Mike) Melenchuk, Leah (Jordan) Profitt, Lacey Conrad (James Webb),
Kenneth Conrad, Dr. Stephanie Conrad, Jessica Conrad, Billy Conrad and
Brandon (Cassie) Conrad; and great-grandchildren, Michael,
Everett, T.J., Keegan, Michael and
Bradley.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased
by his wife, Ruth (Prall); daughter-in-law, Leslie Ann Conrad; and
brother, Gordon Conrad.
The family would like to thank the kind and
compassionate staff of the VRH for their excellent care of Don and the
family in his last days.
Cremation has taken place. The funeral service
will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2022 in the White
Family Funeral Home, Kentville with a reception to follow. The
Reverend Nicole Uzans officiating. Interment will take place
in St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, Wolfville. Donations in
memory may be made to 4-H Nova Scotia or Wolfville Food Bank. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the
White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. On-line
