Obituary
Donald Clair Trafford of Connell, New Brunswick passed away following a battle with multiple illnesses, and after a short stay at the Riverview Nursing Home in Bath New Brunswick. He was able to remain in his own home, with the support of family, until the recent past. Born on May 18,1927, he was 95 years old.
Don lived a long and very satisfying life. He married Maude Darkis of Bristol, NB on November 4,1950. After a short stay in Connecticut, USA, the couple returned to the family farm in Connell, to take over its operation and make it into the successful business of Connell Farms. Don and Maude lovingly raised three children. They were active, involved, members of the community of Florenceville, NB. Don was both a Mason and a Shriner for many years and was also a member of the Eastern Star. Friendships with neighbours and friends were important to him and they were many, up and down the Saint John River Valley. Don had a deep belly laugh and a keen sense of humour which endeared him to those he knew. He dearly loved the game of golf and would proudly state that he only hung his clubs up at the age of 91. He was overjoyed to become a member of the Covered Bridge Golf and Country club from its inception. He believed it had been built just for his pleasure and his claim to fame was that he played the first “hole in one” on the course. Many winters, in his sixties, were spent in Florida playing golf. He particularly loved playing a few holes with his grandson, John in his most recent his senior years. Don loved watching his grandchildren thrive and he participated in their growth, often driving them to practices for multiple activities. Grampy was always “on call” for family. His grandchildren were his greatest joy and a constant source of pride.
Don is pre-deceased by his wife Maude, his parents Clinton and Gladys Trafford of Florenceville, his older brother, Ivan Trafford and his sister Gwen Kilpatrick (Borden) of Wicklow. Don is survived by his daughter Donna Trafford of Halifax, and his two sons, Ivan Trafford(Paula) and David Trafford( Joyce) of Florenceville, his five grandchildren Shannon Black(Ben) of Victoria, BC, Samuel Casey of Moncton, NB, Jessica Boughton( Oliver) of Chichester, UK, Brittany Trafford of Fredericton, NB, John Trafford of Ottawa, Ontario, and his three great grandchildren, Joshua, Claire, and Daniel Black of Victoria, BC.
As requested by Don, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Don’s ashes will rest next to those of his loving wife, Maude, in the East Florenceville Cemetery. A graveside service for immediate family will follow at a later date.
If so desired, donations in Dons memory can be made to a charity of the Donors Choice.
