Diane Smith Cairns 19422022

Diane (Smith) Cairns
It is with great sadness and with much love that the family
of Elizabeth Diane Cairns (née Smith) announce her passing
on July 6, 2022 at the age of 80 in Vancouver, BC. Surrounded by her
two sons and their families, Diane passed away peacefully after a
short, but aggressive battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Diane
will be lovingly remembered by her son Simon Cairns (Krista), son
Nicholas Cairns (Margarida), and her beloved grandson Luke Cairns.
Diane is survived by her sister Saundra Hardy (née Smith),
and her many nieces and nephews. Diane is previously deceased by her
brother Sydney Smith of Montreal, and her parents Dugald MacLachlan
Smith and Muriel Fraser MacDonald of Halifax. Born in Dartmouth, NS,
Diane attended New Glasgow High School, before studying nursing at the
Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. Diane, previously married to
VAdm Peter W. Cairns, spent many years living abroad, across Canada,
and helping to represent the Canadian Navy. Diane had a keen eye for
design, loved to travel, play bridge, golf, and entertain family and
friends. In her later years, Diane’s school and nursing
classmates were especially dear to her. A funeral will be held at
Little Harbour Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at
11am. Friends and family are welcome. The service will be recorded. A
link to the recording will be available later Wednesday.
