It is with heavy hearts we share that Derek Praznik suffered a heart attack on October 27, 2022 and died peacefully later that day with family at his side. He is survived by his spouse Marietta Rewucki, daughter Krizsia Praznik (Jeff Bunce), stepdaughter Laura Rewucki (Mackenzie Warren), grandchildren Jackub and Zalina Bunce, siblings Wendy Toews (Donnie), Ron Praznik, Dean Praznik (Mary), Gary Praznik (Lorilee), in-laws Susan Musulak (Steve), Christine Rewucki, Patricia Sas (Michael), Teresa Fandych (Dolf), Karen Guzzi (Frank), Andy Rewucki (Linda), Janet Rewucki (Randy), and James Rewucki. He is also survived by Krizsia’s mother Sonia Jablonski-Praznik as well as numerous Praznik, Rewucki, and Jablonski nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. Derek will be greatly missed by his beloved dogs, Piper and Stormy.
He was predeceased by his mother Isabel Praznik, father William Praznik (Marilyn), father-in-law Joe Rewucki, mother-in-law Geraldine Rewucki, brother-in-law Gerald Rewucki, nephew Graham Praznik, great nieces Sayler Funk, and Grace Musulak.
Derek was raised in Selkirk where he enjoyed the close-knit life of a small town. After high school he worked in the printing industry for many years, and had a varied work career which included working alongside Marietta at Eastern Chrysler. In 2014 Derek retired and had more time to enjoy the game of golf, as a single handicap player. He was especially proud of his caddying days on the Canadian, PGA and LPGA golf tours. An avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, he especially loved his many adventures with his brother Gary, brother-in-law Andy, and buddy Rae Christensen. Over the years, Derek travelled with Marietta and their girls to many parts of the world. He was especially grateful for their post retirement trips spent in Arizona. In the past few years he was able to spend precious time with Krizsia and Jeff on their summer visits. He particularly loved watching his grandson Jackub learn to swim. In recent weeks he was blessed to be able to meet his new granddaughter Zalina.
The family would like to thank the Grand Forks police, the Fire and Paramedics first responders, and the doctors, and nurses at the Altru Hospital, especially paramedic Janie, nurses Jakob and Duane, and Chaplain John, who took care of him in his hours of greatest need. Their kindness and gentle caring was so incredibly appreciated.
