Obituary
Derek MacGregor-Greer died at home on January 17, 2022.
Born in Beckenham, Kent, Derek emigrated to Canada with his parents (Stephen Walcott MacGregor-Greer and Mary Newbold Roebuck Coleman) in 1952 and grew up in Ottawa. He served for 26 years in the Royal Canadian Navy before commencing a 15-year career in financial and program management in the BC government.
Derek and Daphne (Borris) were married for 54 years, and lived in Victoria, Ottawa, Halifax and Toronto. Derek is survived by Daphne, dear daughters Jennifer (Ray Wong) and Sarah (Tim Johnston), beloved grandchildren Abigail and Sullivan, sister Stephanie MacGregor-Greer (Carsten Nachtigahl, dec.), brother David Greer (Darshan Bains) and extended family and friends.
In addition to his working career, Derek did extensive volunteer work, primarily for St Mary the Virgin Anglican Church (Oak Bay) and the Naval Association of Canada. His volunteer work was recognized by the award of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Community Service Award by the CGA Association of BC.
The family is grateful for the support provided by Vancouver Island Health Authority medical staff during Derek’s illness and would particularly like to thank Dr. Leah Hutchinson.
In lieu of flowers and cards, please do a kind act for another person in memory of Derek. A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s (Oak Bay) Anglican Church at a suitable date when the public health situation allows. Please check back on this site for updates.
