Obituary
David Steen- The family announces with deep sorrow David’s passing, Sunday, August 14th 2022 at the age of 68 years. He leaves behind his wife Janet (Doniec) after 50 wonderful years of marriage. Loving father of Sheri Pratt (Dustin) and KatieMarie Volckmann (David). Proud papa to River and Summer Pratt and Papa D to Charlie Jane and Heidi Volckmann. Predeceased by his parents Herbert (Jack) and Edna Steen. Dear brother to Herb (Paulette) Steen and predeceased by Lillian (Gilbert) Little. David was raised in the Little Britain area of Sudbury. David began working at the age of 15 at Sudbury Steam Cleaners and finished with a long and distinguished career at Fraser Mine (Falconbridge/Glencore), where he enjoyed every work day in the mining industry and for an additional 16 years after retirement. As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, David led a rich spiritual life, serving as an elder and wedding officiant for many decades. As an avid lover of world history, David and Janet spent much time together travelling and visiting many historical landmarks and cosmopolitan cities all across the world. Every year, they wintered in southwestern Florida where they enjoyed entertaining family and friends. David also frequented the family hunt camp on Beulah Lake where many fond memories were shared, including fishing, hunting, trail riding and of course, cooking. He also spent many summers at his cottage on Long Lake, acting as the pontoon boat captain touring his grandkids around the lake. David will always be remembered not only for his wisdom, but also for his remarkable quality of kindness- it was part of everything he said and did. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Singh “a real gem”, and his Oncology team. Thank you as well to the Palliative care staff on 4 N at HSN and the dedicated Bayshore nurses who provided loving care at home in David’s time of need. A private memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10th 2022, at 2pm. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather afterward at the Steen residence from 4-6pm. Cremation services provided by Simple Wishes of the North, Sudbury.
