Obituary
Darcy Christopher Cabot, age 49, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 13th, 2022, in St. John’s, NL. He was surrounded by his two beautiful children, his mom, brothers, sisters, and girlfriend. In true Darcy style, music was played, the sorrow and immense grief we were all feeling was interspersed with laughter, stories, and the knowledge that he would want us to do just that.
Darcy was predeceased by his dad, Michael Cabot (1974) and his stepdad, Emile Ryland (2015).
He is survived by his two beautiful, amazing children, Colton and Raya Cabot; his mom, Irene Ryland; Sisters, Alina Hedderson (Dennis), Ada Cabot, Rosatta Dunphy (Rick); Brothers, Deon Cabot (Dawn), and Colin Ryland (Ginger) and his loving girlfriend Nadine Wells. Coming from a large family Darcy also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly and was part of their lives as they leaned on him for advice, support, or just a chat. He had a very large circle of friends who he would want them to remember him with laughter, love, and fun.
Born in Forteau Labrador to Father Michael Cabot and Mother Irene Hillyard, Darcy spent his younger years cementing relationships that would last a lifetime. This has become evident to his family by the outpouring of love and stories told to us by all those who knew him in recent days.
In his twenties, Darcy moved to Calgary and built a family which included his two beautiful children, Colton (22) and Raya (18) Cabot; they were truly the loves of his life. He returned to NL in 2018 and was residing in St. John’s at the time of his death.
It is impossible to describe Darcy as he had many interests and a unique outlook on life and death, having faced it many times before. He loved hockey and played for most of his life, he loved to cycle and cycled from St. John’s to Labrador and Nova Scotia in recent years. Nature, hiking, documentaries, guitar playing, and reading were just a few of his interests. He was very intelligent, witty, funny, a gifted poet and quite dapper! He was a hard worker, no matter what job or position he held he gave his all.
While there are too many people to thank, we would be remiss not to mention the medical care he received at St. Clare’s and Health Science ER and the Health Science ICU over the past two weeks. The entire team were phenomenal. Each of them displayed such compassion and empathy toward Darcy and his loved ones. It would be impossible to put in words how much it meant to us.
Cremation has taken place and many celebrations of Darcy’s life will be taking place in the coming months with Darcy’s closest family and friends in various locations in which he lived. He would want you to laugh, sing a song, play guitar, go for a hike, but most importantly love unconditionally and be kind.
Here is a snippet from a book he had just started writing.
“March with me into the dark and help me seek the light, that will be the start, for I will shine at the end of the path”.
