HORVIATIS, Daniel John
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Dan Horvatis, on January 10th, 2022. Dad was born on July 9th, 1933 in the small hamlet of Erie at the corner of No. 3 Highway and Cheapside Rd, just east of Jarvis ON where his parents Daniel and Johanna had established a gas station and general store. Dad had many roles in his life, including father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, husband, brother and uncle, friend and neighbour, small business owner, auto mechanic, small engine whisperer, salesman, community fund raiser, minor hockey and softball coach, Lion, Cayuga Redwings Jr. D Hockey Team executive, OMHA clinic coordinator, minor hockey volunteer and sponsor, lifelong Chicago Blackhawk fan, proud and vocal resident of Haldimand County, tour bus driver, and later in life, chief sidewalk inspector for Cayuga, Hagersville and finally Dunnville. However, the greatest role Dad played was supporter and proud patriarch of his family. He would bend the ear of anyone who would listen about the accomplishments of his family, not all of which were completely accurate. To the many people that had to endure these embellishments, thank you. Dad was called home on the birthday of his long-time sidekick and goal judge, George C. Our family is sure both are looking down at us waiting for the next round of OMHA playdowns. Our family extends our sincerest gratitude to the staff at Edgewater Gardens in Dunnville and Anson Place in Hagersville. While not the easiest resident, as Dad could be equally charming and miserable all in the same conversation, we knew that he was treated with respect and received excellent care. Most important, we always knew he was safe. A celebration of life will take place later this year. Dad will be laid to rest with his parents at St. Ann’s Catholic parish in Walpole at that time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Edgewater Gardens, 428 Broad St. W, Dunnville ON N1A 1T3.
