Cyril’s Obituary
Cyril Lindberg Cutler
June 10th, 1947 – February 3rd, 2022
Cyril was born June 10th, 1947, on Fair Island to parents Horatio and Agnes Cutler. He passed away February 3rd, 2022, with Linda and his girls by his side.
Cyril is survived by Linda, the love of his life for 51 years, his 3 girls Renee (Cyril), Rosina (Bill), and Rachelle (Terry), and his 5 treasured grandchildren, Jakob, Grace, Daniel, Alex, and Lily.
The Greeks didn’t write obituaries, they only asked one question after a man died: “Did he have passion?”… A question that resonates deeply with thoughts of Cyril…His passion was displayed in many ways, but most of all through his love for Linda, his true partner and soul mate, the 3 girls and his 5 grandchildren.
As the youngest of 9 siblings, he was not only the baby of the litter, but the leader of the pack. Cyril was a beloved uncle, the kind that you are lucky and fortunate to have in your life. Respected by all nieces/nephews, who all looked to “Uncle Cyril” for his wisdom, voice of reason, and guidance in life, they all anxiously waited to see him, hug him, and listen to his stories. He loved the conversations and time spent with all.
Cyril and Linda loved to spend time at the cabin. They were always busy doing something: cutting wood, building a new deck, or renovating. The cabin was much more than a place to go to get away. It was a home away from home, built with beloved and missed friends Walt and Susie (Walt would always refer to him as “Cutler”). Like all families, the cabin family grew to include dear friends Jeff & Emma, and Paulette & Dieter. It was a home, a true gathering place for all.
His dedication, skill and love of labour were portrayed through one of his most prized achievements, Juno. He started from scratch, researched his plans and design, and began his journey to build a boat, a lifelong dream. From cutting and milling the logs, to fiber glassing, to installing the motor and electronics, and finally setting sail in June of 2003, he did it all. Juno, the protector of women, was the name he chose to represent his love for his 3 girls and bride, “a forever safe haven for all the ladies of his life”. A beacon for all awaiting a journey to Fair Island and beyond, he loved to entertain and generously captained voyages for all.
A beloved friend to many, his loud laugh filled a room. His infectious (and sometimes sly) smile will be fondly remembered. He will be remembered and reminisced about forever; whether it was over a game of 500’s (the arguing in good fun will never be the same), at community events, or on the dance floor from the first to last songs with Linda, his partner in crime. “Where there’s one there’ll be the other, Music and friends”.
Cyril was a true ‘MacGyver’ in life, in family, in skill, and in community. He was a lifelong mentor and a well-respected teacher (of 31 years) who guided many young lives. If anyone needed something, ‘check with Cyril Cutler’. If he needed something to be built – he built it. If something needed to be fixed – he fixed it. If something needed to be solved – he solved it. And whatever had to be done – he did it. Cyril was a leader and supporter of the Indian Bay Lions Club for many years. He was a well-respected member of the community and believed in its importance and strength.
Predeceased by his parents Horatio & Agnes; brothers: Howard (Annie Ethel), Caleb (Joyce); sisters: Frances (Esau), Rebecca (Eli). Left to morn with fond and loving memories are his loving wife Linda, daughters: Renee (Cyril), Rosina (Bill), Rachelle (Terry); grandchildren: Jakob, Grace, Daniel, Alex, Lily; brother Spencer (Grace – deceased); sisters: Lily (Malcom – deceased), Selena (Gerald), and Eileen (Martin); and an extensive circle of family and friends.
As an expression of sympathy, a monetary donation in Cyril’s memory can be made through the Cutler family. The donations will be contributed to the Indian Bay Lions Club Scholarship Fund.
