It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Coye Wolstencroft (Gammy Sask) on Friday, November 4th, 2022 at 91 years of age.
Coye was born in Gull Lake Saskatchewan on June 14th, 1931, the only child born to Evelyn and Delphen Schoneck.
During her youth, Coye was very involved in music, singing at many church and wedding events in and around Gull Lake and singing and playing piano in a local dance band.
After graduating high school, Coye entered Teachers College in Moose Jaw and upon completion of her teachers certificate, went to teach in a Kindergarten to Grade 8, one room school south of Gull Lake.
Coye met the love of her life, Barry Wolstencroft when he arrived in Gull Lake to teach at Gull Lake High School. Coye and Barry married in 1953 and had three children, Nancy (Jill), Thomas and Ted. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1959 after stops in Assiniboia and Regina.
Coye returned to teaching in 1963 at Dr. F.W.L. Hamilton School in East St. Paul Manitoba. After three years of teaching one of the Grade 4 classes, she was appointed principal of the school where she remained until her early retirement in 1983. Coye and Barry moved to Moose Jaw where Barry took a position with a hail insurance company.
Barry passed away suddenly in 1990 and in 1999, Coye moved back to Stonewall, Manitoba to be closer to her family.
Coye was a very confident, strong willed and multi-talented person. She loved cooking and baking and playing the piano daily, well into her ‘80’s.
Coye loved her family fiercely and is survived by her sons Thom (Margaret) and Ted (Lori) and grandchildren Chloe (Scott), Teagan (Kelsey), Lynlee (Jordan) and Jonathan.
Coye had a razor sharp wit and was never afraid to speak her mind or state her opinion. She is remembered lovingly by her grandchildren as “Loved by many…feared by more,” and “She was the strongest, badass woman I’ve ever known!”
There will be a private ceremony (tbd) for the family. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank the staff of Middlechurch Personal Care Home for the care and respect given to Coye in the last few years, particularly when family was unable to visit due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Coye
