CORRIE JOCHEMS
Corrie Jochems of Mitchell, Ontario passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 16, 2022. Loving wife of Jack Jochems for 60 years. Mother of Lizet (Bill) Scott, John (Cheryl) Jochems, Angela (Paul) Gras and Charles (Ayisha) Jochems. Cherished Oma to Will (Alex), Greg (Lydia), Cameron, Julianne, Bill (Krystal), Mark, Brittany, Marisa, Anita (Tyler), Daniel (Janessa), Peter, Anna, Anneka, Kaiya and Thomas. Great Oma to Blaine, Jordan, Alanna, Felix, Loxley, Paxton and Finnegan. Dear sister to Jose Van Alphen and pre-deceased by older sister Riet Van Oorschot, younger brother Kees Maas, parents Louisa and Charles Maas. She will be dearly missed by the Maas and Jochems families in the Netherlands, the Mitchell community, and fellow St Vincent de Paul parishioners.
Cornelia E. Maas (Jochems) was born on July 24, 1937 in Rysbergen, Netherlands. She was named after her Oma. Raised in a rural area, she met Jack at a young age in 1953, as he just lived down the road. On April 25, 1962, she married her best friend. Shortly thereafter, they immigrated to Canada to start a new life together, working for various farms in southern Ontario. In 1972, they bought their farm, became pig farmers, and raised four loving children. She was an active member of St Brigid’s Parish, involved in the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) and Christians on Retreat (COR). In 1998, Jack and Corrie moved into their new house in Mitchell to enjoy their retirement. She helped arrange day trips for Seniors Alive where they went on many adventures. They also made several trips to the Netherlands including two trips with the whole family in 1980 and 1993. Corrie always appreciated family gatherings to see her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Corrie will be remembered for her sense of humour, her kindness to others, and her heart of gold. She always made a point of calling friends to make sure they were doing fine. She was an excellent cook, and happy to feed family and friends that she welcomed into her home. She loved playing cards with her children and grandchildren. Corrie was a force to be reckoned with, we will never forget her competitive spirit especially when playing Euchre.
Corrie and Jack’s love for one another grew stronger throughout the years as they were best friends, sharing many laughs. Corrie found a way to work in an occasional joke to make her care takers or Jack laugh even at the very end.
Thank you to all the friends and neighbours who helped while Oma was in the hospital and at home, especially Dr. Steele and the wonderful nursing staff for their compassionate care.
All are welcome to the funeral mass celebration at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Mitchell on Wednesday April 20th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., officiated by Father Ronnie Tagnines. A recording of the service will be posted at LockhartFuneralHome.com.
