Catherine Marion “Hope” Bird
Passed away peacefully at her home on August 17, 2022 with her daughters by her side, at the age of 89. Hope grew up in Guelph, Ontario. In 1954 she graduated from the Kitchener-Waterloo school of nursing, distinguishing herself by receiving the award for excellence in pediatrics. She later qualified and received her status as a Registered Nurse. Hope, the only child of William Malcolm Drummond and Catherine Marion Drummond (Hawkins), was born February 12, 1933 in Toronto. Hope was dedicated to managing the family household when she and her husband of 63 years, Bob (predeceased), moved to Brighton, Ontario in 1957. Hope was a devoted wife and mother who lovingly helped raise their daughters: Kathryn (Don, predeceased), Janet (Dan), and Stephanie (Janna). Hope enjoyed her grandchildren: Meghan (Matt), Ian (Sofia), Molly-Kate (Newton), Steve, Danielle (Sam), Brandon (Vicki) and Dylan and her great-grandchildren: Sawyer, Benson, and Diego. Hope’s life was full and cherished by many.
Hope volunteered for many organizations such as the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation. Hope and Bob were high school sweethearts and were very fortunate to have had over 30 years of retirement together enjoying many travels. They valued their many friendships made both at home and abroad.
It is Hope’s wish that there be no public visitation but rather a private celebration of her life at the family home during the 2022 Christmas season, her favourite time of year. Cremation. Hope requested as an expression of sympathy that donations can be made to: the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, Brighton Public Library or the Bridge Hospice in Warkworth.
