With the same compassion, tenderness and grace that marked her life and surrounded by her loving family, Cathy Bayne (nee Knight) passed away on the morning of April 3, 2022. Beloved wife of 47 years to Jim, and proud mother of her four children; Ryan (Melissa), Breanne, Tim (Liz) and Jason. Her memory will be cherished by her greatest joys, her three grandchildren; Ruby, James and Karson and her three favourite dogs Gem, Tripp & Teddy. Born on September 13, 1955, the youngest child of the late Clarence & Ellen Knight. Cathy grew up with her two older brothers, John (Linda 2022) & Allan, in the Exeter area before meeting her future husband on a fated blind date. Cathy quickly adopted Sarnia as her home after marrying the love of her life, and spent countless hours over the years volunteering for many community based programs and sports associations. Always an advocate for those in need, her time spent with the Children’s Ward Auxiliary (over 20 years), serving as president and board member, and with Bluewater Health Foundation were especially meaningful. After staying home with her children until their teens, Cathy started her career with People’s Jewellers before moving on to Bell Canada where she held various positions before her retirement in 2010. Since retiring, Cathy & Jim have enjoyed the flexibility of being able to visit their grandchildren and children across the country and creating lasting memories. Known for her open heart and gentle spirit, Cathy would spend countless hours laughing and talking over coffee or wine with her friends and family. Walks by the river, playing cards, puzzling, reading, or connecting through conversation is where Cathy was the most content. Predeceased by her treasured mother and father in-law Jack & Barbara Bayne. Cathy is survived by her dear sister-in-law Susan (Clare) Bowman and loving aunt to Lisa (James), Kara (Steven), Michael, Kevin (Sarah) & Fawn. Family and friends will be received at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, April 8, 2022, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A private family interment will be held at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, sympathy can be expressed through donations to the Bluewater Health Children’s Ward Auxiliary or the Bluewater Health Foundation (Palliative Care Department) (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
