Carolyn was born in Bishop’s Falls, Newfoundland, the youngest daughter in a family of 12 children. She had some health issues as a child but was very smart and strong, and managed to graduate on time despite having to miss a lot of school.
In the late 1960s she moved to Vancouver, where she worked as an operator for BC Tel and met the man she would marry, Frank Lind. Together they travelled the province and had two daughters, Kathy and Heather, before settling in Powell River in 1976.
Carolyn always said that what she wanted most out of life was to be a good wife and mother, and she excelled at both. I could not have asked for a better mother and although I took it for granted at the time, I have grown to appreciate that more than I can express.
My mom had the gift of gab. She had a quick wit and a sarcastic streak that could put a smile on anyone’s face and make them feel right at home. I was always envious of that and I wish I had told her because I don’t think she ever knew how awesome I thought she was.
Alzheimer’s disease robbed us of Carolyn and robbed her of her life. Please tell the people you love what they mean to you before it is too late.
My mom did not want a service. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Carolyn’s name to Willingdon Creek Village in Powell River, to Alzheimer’s research at alzheimer.ca/bc/en/takeaction/donate/donate-memory, or to the BC SPCA under the name Jethro the Cat.
