In Loving Memory
Carol Gloria (Bayer) Yurkowsky
December 13, 1952 – October 15, 2022
With shock and deep sadness we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved sister, wife, step-mother, step-grandmother, step-great-grandmother Carol Yurkowsky at age 69.
Left to cherish her memory are husband Walter, step-children Gerald, Laura (Jason), 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, sister in law Julie (Keith), brother in law Larry (Teresa), sisters Linda (Lyle), Donna, Sharon (Steve), numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents George and Frances Bayer, siblings Lorenz Bayer, Elaine Morgensen, David Bayer, brother in law Wayne and other relatives.
Carol was born in Melfort, SK and the first 5 years of her life were spent on a small farm in the Dover School District. In 1956 the family moved to Prince Albert, SK then to southern Alberta in 1959 where she started her schooling at Chin, AB. After two more moves the family settled in Condor, AB in
December, 1961 and had a general store where she learned at a young age to stock shelves, serve customers and help with household chores. The family moved to BC in 1969. A year later she moved to Red Deer, AB and worked in a Hotel kitchen. In 1970 she returned to BC and worked a few
jobs then from 1974-1989 she worked at a fiberglass boat manufacturing plant where she met her husband Walter, a self-employed truck driver. In 1989 she obtained her Class 1 drivers license and for the next 13 years Carol and Walter delivered boats then RV’s all over Canada and the United States. Her favorite trucking trips were to Alaska which they saw in every season. She always had her camera with her and made frequent stops to take lots of pictures everywhere they went. They retired and enjoyed winters in Mexico and in recent years exploring Canada in the summer and spending time with family.
Carol became interested in genealogy and wrote extensive history books for the Bayer and Yurkowski families. Her creative talents included scrap booking, cross stitch, artistic painting and crafts. She loved to decorate her home and outdoors with her seasonal creations she was very proud of. She was an excellent cook and learned to make traditional Ukrainian dishes and breads. We have fond memories of many dinners and parties hosted in her home. Family was very important to her, she will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday October 26, 2022 at 1:00pm with lunch to follow. Links for on line viewing can be found at live.sproing.ca/Alternatives/. Interment of her ashes will take place at a future date in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Sarto, MB.
