Obituary of Carol Ann Simonovich
Carol Ann Simonovich (nee Chaffey)
Stephenville Crossing, NL
February 28, 1950 – May 17, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Carol Ann Simonovich (nee Chaffey) announce her passing at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing, NL on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at the age of 72.
She leaves to mourn with many loving memories her brothers Edgar Chaffey and Calvin Chaffey (Adelaine), her sisters Marie Chaffey and Cindy Campbell, and her most special friend Judy Lucas, who was like a sister to her, her brother-in-law, Danny Efurd, sister-in- law, Mary Ann Chaffey, a large group of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, relatives and friends.
Carol was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Peter Chaffey, her sisters Marg Efurd and Vivian Legge (Harold) and her brothers Edward Chaffey and Peter Chaffey and her great niece Angel Chaffey.
Her absence will be felt especially by her sister Marie who was not only her biological family but her chosen family and her best friend who provided constant support and care. The memories they made over the years will last a lifetime and beyond.
It is a difficult task to summarize one’s life in a few paragraphs. Carol’s friendships and connections are far reaching across Canada and especially in the Toronto area where she worked with Toronto Police Services for many years. Carol was a funny, direct, easy going and kind woman who always remembered her roots and who longed to return to her hometown of Stephenville Crossing where she grew up. She cherished her time in Ontario and in Newfoundland watching her great nieces and great nephews grow. She was the first and the last person to sit with them, craft with them and play with them while making lasting memories and teaching them many life skills. She truly was the biggest kid at heart evidenced by her unique collection of teddy bears whom she loving called “her babies”.
Carol was many things to many people. She was an avid crafter, a seamstress, a caregiver, an amateur carpenter, a diehard Coronation Street fan, a hard worker, a cherished friend, a confidante, and a sister. Her independent nature, strength of character and resilience enabled her to face many challenges that affected her and others throughout the years. These song lyrics clearly depict Carol and how she chose to live her life.
… And now, the end is near
And so I face that final curtain
My friend, I’ll make it clear
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain
… I’ve lived a life that’s full
I’ve travelled each and every highway
And more, much more
I did it, I did it my way
… Regrets, I’ve had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
I saw it through without exemption
… I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much, much more
I did it, I did it my way
… Yes, there were times, I’m sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way
… For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he is not
Not to say the things that he truly feels
And not the words of someone who kneels
Let the record show I took all the blows
And did it my way
Special thanks to Hilda Lucas and Ann Marie White, the staff at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre, Dr. Holmes in St. John’s, NL, and Fillatre’s Funeral Home (Laura and Ernie – thank you). Your care and support were greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten.
As per Carol’s wishes there will be a private family service.
Rest in peace Carol and continue to do it, to do it, your way …

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Carol Ann
