It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Carmencita Ocasiones
on January 17, 2022.
Carmencita was born in Davao, Philippines. The daughter of Edilberto Ocasiones and
Petronia Espina, she was the eldest of 12 siblings. She graduated from Santo
Thomas University Medical School in Manila. While completing her residency in
Cleveland, Ohio, she met her beloved husband of 46 years, Dr. Dionisio Purino.
Dr. O, as she was known, lived in Chomedey and worked for 43 years as a physician
at the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital, originally named the Jewish Convalescent
Hospital. Dr. O and her husband were among the first doctors hired. She built an
esteemed career, focused on treating stroke and closed-head injury patients with
warmth and compassion. All who knew her loved her kindness and giving nature.
In addition to being a brilliant health professional, Carmencita was a loving mother
and wife.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her children and their spouses:
Lorie & Robert, Vincent & Noémie and Melissa & Michel. She was the most loving
and cherished “Lola” of Madison, Alexa, Emma, Miko, Mia, Leila, Kai, and Liam. She
will also be deeply missed by her caregiver, Gracie and many relatives, medical
colleagues and friends.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the
Jewish General Hospital for their wonderful support and care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Jewish General Hospital Hemodialysis Unit.
