Bruce Schofield
1963-2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing
of Bruce Allan Schofield on August 4, 2022 at the age of 59. Bruce had
resided in Calgary, Alberta the last 38 years, but was formally from
North Alton, Nova Scotia.
Bruce is survived by his sisters, Linda Darlene Bezanson
(Maurice) Bezanson, Aylesford; Wanda (Stanley) Viner, Waterville;
nephews, Jason, Devin, and Darren; niece, Selena; great-nephew, Tripp
and Andrew; great-nieces, Callie, Taya; stepson, Nicholas (Karla);
granddaughters, Avery, Paige and Madison. Bruce was predeceased by
infant daughter, Evelena Anastasia Dors Schofield; father, Keith;
mother, Joan and brother, Cecil. Bruce lived his life to the absolute
fullest and was a simple man who believed in working hard, but not
without making time to have fun with his friends! For those that knew
Bruce, he had a great love for the outdoors. He loved fishing and
hunting with his sidekick, Shawn Ward. They were always together
enjoying many outdoor adventures including rabbit hunting. If he ever
took notice of anybody sitting around and complaining he would be the
first person to say, “Come on boys, no time be
sittin’ around”. He sure loved being
busy and with others and treasured friendships from back home with;
Wendell Irving, Tyrone Seawards, Roy Graves, George Graves, Brian Dill
and many others. They always made time to be together having a good
ole yarn or just some good ole fun. That was our Bruce, full of
it!
For those that knew Bruce, you may have tasted many of the
things he would cook and share with those at the table. He fell in
love with the kitchen and was an amazing cook, canning his own
vegetables that he grew from his garden. One of the tastiest things he
made was sauerkraut and we can all remember his first try actually
making it. You would often hear him say, “Fit for a
King, that’s me.” Now, don’t forget
Bruce loved Nova Scotia lobster, hot dogs and bologna right from
Larsons. He certainly had a taste for fine food and he would be sure
to tell ya, “Can’t wait to get me a good
feed!”
Bruce was often known as a handyman who loved working and
creating special things. One of the many ways Bruce spent time was
making furniture and he certainly took great pride in selling pieces
of his furniture to whoever showed interest. When Bruce moved to
Calgary he had a small farm where he had such passion for planting and
raising animals. He sure loved the animals on his farm and this
brought him so much joy!
Bruce was such a fun loving and caring man who would do
anything for anyone in need. His life was not always easy, there were
struggles along the way, but one thing Bruce always remembered and
that was his family back home. He treasured the conversations and the
love that he felt when he would connect with his old stomping
ground.
Bruce sure loved his family and would reminisce about all the
wonderful times growing up. We used to skate on the pond across from
where we grew up and Bruce would encourage us to play and skate along
with him and the others. One of the things he would have his sisters
do, would be to strap Sears catalogues around their knees to protect
us from the slap shots he would take on us. Oh how he would try to
convince us that one day we would be professional skaters. We never
became professional skaters Bruce, but we’ll always remember
what it felt like to be your goalie. Our time with you has been
shortened, but Bruce, you will forever remain in our hearts and we
will continue to share your legacy with family, friends and everyone
we meet. Bruce, never forget how much you were loved! Until we meet
again, watch over us and make sure everyone in Heaven knows who your
dad is, you always said and we never forgot your famous
words, “I am the son of Keith Schofield,
that’s who I am!”
Cremation has taken place and the celebration of
Bruce’s life will be held at the North Alton Community Hall,
Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Donations in memory of
Bruce Schofield can be made to the Kings Regional Rehabilitation
Centre.
A very special thank you to Brian Dill for helping to bring
our brother home so we could celebrate his life with you. Our family
would like to thank everyone who took the time to keep us in their
thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful for you! Thank you for the
phone calls, fb messages, emails, and every other way you showed your
love and concern. Our hearts are broken, but we are at peace knowing
dear Bruce is now home and at rest.
