It is with great honour that we announce the return of Brian Raymond Joseph Kearley (64) to his Heavenly home. Brian was surrounded by family, at home, when he passed peacefully from this mortal world on November 21, 2022.
Brian was born March 2, 1958, in Halifax, Nova Scotia to Thomas and Alice (Monk) Kearley. He grew up in Halifax and specifically spoke highly of his time spent at St. Joseph’s Junior High. He would often reminisce about the friends he still had late in life from those early years.
Brian was a carpenter by trade. He worked for himself and others which helped refine his skills eventually encouraging him to pursue his journeyman and interprovincial red seal through NSCC. His carpentry skills were also utilized outside of his profession, as he would often make gifts for others out of wood.
Outside of work Brian fostered many hobbies. He was a lover of sports as a participant, a coach, and a fan. He was a boxer and softball player in his youth. He was a very talented dart player and played in many leagues over the years. He loved going to play at the legion each week, and when that became too difficult, he enjoyed competing online with people all over the world. Brian was a true Toronto sports fan both cheering for and yelling at the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays from the comfort of his home. He was an avid motorcycle rider, and chauffeur. He loved offering rides to others who wanted to relive their younger years. He was a founder of the Jokers Wild Motorcycle club and participated in several charitable motorcycle rides. He took up toll painting and loved to paint different mountain scenes on canvas. Brian was also an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was part of the lighting crew for the annual nativity pageant for many years. He was a very proud scout leader who would tell many funny stories of his scout boys. He was a Sunday school teacher as well. His personal favourite volunteer opportunity was to be helping in the temple doing baptisms for the dead with the youth.
Brian had special relationships with anyone he met. He particularly had a close relationship with his father and enjoyed hunting and fishing with him. Each trip with his dad produced a new funny memory that he would tell for years to come. He inherited his father’s talent for cooking delicious food for an army, even if he was the only one at home to eat. There was always an open invitation to missionaries and friends to stop in any time unannounced for a meal if they needed one.
Brian was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Alice Kearley, stepmother Shirley and best friends Billy Durst and Butch Kinsman. We know he was so excited to see them again and is having a wonderful reunion with them now. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Shawna (Daniels), and children John (MacMillan), Sharon, Mary, Crystal, Kellyann and Alicia. Brian was a beloved Poppy to grandchildren Lincoln, Olivia, Noah, Cali, Eliza, Seira, and Addison, who will miss him teasing them, letting them do his hair in ponytails, and telling them tall tales.
Brian also will be missed by his siblings Marjorie, Tommy, Brenda, Ann-Marie (Ducky), Sheila, Tony, stepbrother Tony Hannam, and brother by choice Tony Ince whose love and support meant the world to him.
There will be no visitation, but a service will be held on December 2, 2022, at 7:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 44 Cumberland Drive in Cole Harbour.
