Brian Maxwell Peter Goucher 19472022 avis de deces

Brian Maxwell “Peter” Goucher
1947-2022
Brian Maxwell
“Peter” Goucher, BBA, B.Ed., of Wolfville, passed
away peacefully on Monday, April 18, 2022, in the Valley Regional
Hospital, at the age of 74.
Peter was born in
Kentville on July 16, 1947, to George and Alberta (Longmire) Goucher.
Peter was the baby of the family, loved by his brothers, Sherman
“Sam”, George “Dub”, and sister,
Elizabeth “Sis”. He started his education in New
Minas and continued to Horton. After the family moved to Kentville, he
completed high school and graduated from KCA. It was here that he met
the love of his life, Libby Lindsay.
After
obtaining a business degree at Acadia, Peter took a job in Oakville,
Ontario, but he soon missed home. He returned to Acadia to get his
Bachelor of Education. Peter’s teaching career started at
Central Kings, and continued to Horton, where he spent most of his
career as Vice-Principal, then Principal. He moved to be Principal of
Cornwallis High School and retired from this position at NEKEC.
Peter’s great contributions to education were acknowledged
in 2013 with a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Peter was an accomplished athlete, best known as a ball
player. He led the Kentville Wildcats to win the National Championship
in 1985. Peter spent many years coaching on baseball fields and in
hockey rinks. In 2012, he was inducted into Acadia’s Hockey
Honour Roll for his contributions to the Axemen in his senior year
(1969). In 2013, he reunited with his Kentville Wildcats friends as
their team was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.
Although the community will surely remember
Peter for his achievements in both sports and education, his family
will remember him even more so for his strength and devotion. In 1985,
Peter was reunited with his high-school sweetheart, Libby. He quickly
asked her two young sons for their blessing, and Peter and Libby were
married in 1987. He was a loving and supportive husband to Libby and
father to Matthew and Drew. Peter and Libby cherished each other, and
every day they had together.
Peter proved
that he would have been happy anywhere in the world with Libby at his
side, as they spent their retirement exploring the back roads of Nova
Scotia, as well as many destinations throughout the United States,
Egypt, and Europe. At home, Peter also loved spending his days with
friends on the golf course or at the curling rink, and he took great
pleasure in sitting down for a raucous game of cards with his
family.
Peter was predeceased
by his wife, Libby (Lindsay); parents, George and Alberta (Longmire)
Goucher; brothers, Sherman and George Goucher. He is survived by his
sister, Elizabeth (Art) Aucoin; sons, Matthew and Drew (Colleen)
Carruthers; grandchildren, Cameron and Aria.
Visitation will be
held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 in the White Family
Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service will be held at
11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022, Reverend Herb Anderson
officiating. A video webcast of the service will be available at that
time. Burial will be held in the Starr’s Point Cemetery,
Willowbank Farm, Port Williams, Nova Scotia.
