We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of a legend, Robert Wayne Merrifield. Born September 5, 1944 and died on November 4, 2022 at 1:43 a.m. with his wife Michelle by his side. Beloved husband of 35 years to Michelle Chauvin. Proud and loving father of Robert Merrifield, Jodi McFarlane (Dave Impens), Leah Chauvin (Dwayne Marmara), Wayne Chauvin (Lindsay Tinwick), Nicki Chauvin (J.P. Greska). Greatest Papa ever to Taylor and Max McFarlane, Ben, Olivia (Cade Pender) and Noah Norris, Elise and Jolie Sylvestre, Samantha and Georgia Chauvin and great-papa to Talia Pender. Bob is survived by brother Don Merrifield (Theresa Fortier), and sister-in-law Vicky Merrifield. Predeceased by his parents Frank and Velma, brother Frank and sister Marguerite. Dear brother-in-law of Randy Renaud (Colleen), Denise Renaud (Brian Walsh), Marie Copf (Ari), Diane Porter (John) and Rhonda Renaud (Bill). Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Bob started his own business as a Mechanic for many years until he changed professions and became a Hall of Fame Realtor with Remax Preferred Realty. You would remember him best as one of the legends of Checker Flag Raceway. Bob’s longtime passion for racing began as a drag racer and shortly after he started driving oval track. Bob raced in the Open Wheel Division, CASCAR, and Ontario Sportsman’s Series. He is one of the most admired racers and a true gentleman of the sport.
Heartfelt thanks to Nicki for enabling us to keep Bob in the comfort of his home, Dr. Gresko and Margie who took the best care of our Bob through the last 17 months. Thank you to all staff at Windsor Regional Ouellette – ICU, Dr. Emara Centre, Paramed, Hospice and VON for your care of Bob. Thank you to Pastor Bill for your prayers and comforting us in these hard times. Thank you to all of our family and friends for your constant care and support during Bob’s illness.
