Beverly Juanita McLean
1936-2022
Beverly Juanita McLean, Kentville – It is with
heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and
grandmother on May 19, 2022 in Valley Regional Hospital, with family
by her side. Born in Wolfville, she was a daughter of the late Ingles
and Florence (Price) Barkhouse. A true Valley girl, Mum grew up in
Kingsport, worked for Maritime Tel & Tel in Kentville as a
young woman, and after living in several communities across Nova
Scotia while raising her family, she returned to the Valley to work in
retail in both Kentville and Wolfville. In 2013 she received the
Second Man Award from the RCMP in recognition of the range of duties
she performed in support of police operations while living in St.
Peters in the late 60s. Wherever Bev went, she met wonderful people
and cultivated lifelong friendships. Her ability to stay connected to
her family and friends was remarkable. She will be remembered for her
conversations, her beautiful smile, her “just right” card in
the mail (how did she remember everyone’s birthdays?) and
her genuine interest in everyone she loved and who loved her. As an
avid reader and a news hound, Mum stayed current throughout her life
and in many ways seemed timeless. We know she will be so missed by so
many! She is survived by her daughters, Charmaine (Roger) Strum,
Bedford; Rhonda McLean (Gary Kenny),
Halifax; their father, Jack McLean,
Halifax; grandchildren, Meaghan Strum (Brett
Ruskin), Halifax; Lyndsay Strum (Chris Tharby), Ottawa; Keegan deWitt,
Toronto; Riley deWitt, Halifax; brother, George (June) Barkhouse,
Kingsport; most beloved nieces, Lillian (Jim) Brown, Middle Sackville;
Ella (Gerard) Davidson, Port Williams, plus several more treasured
nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister, Pearl Spidle,
brother-in-law, Russell Spidle, and nephew, Stephen Spidle. A special
thank you is extended to Medical B, Valley Regional
Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be
held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 in St. John’s
Anglican Church Cemetery, Church Street, Port Williams. For those
unable to attend, a video webcast of the service will be available on
Wednesday, July 20 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the
Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family
Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. To view the video
webcast and for on-line condolences please visit: www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com.
