Beverly Beatrice McConvey 2022

Beverly Beatrice

Beverly Beatrice

Matriarch, Wife, Mom, Business Woman
When asked what our mum’s greatest accomplishment was, she would not mention her community service roles, her success as a business woman, or her multitude of homemaking skills. Rather she would say it was her life as the wife of Alan and as the mother of her five children. Family was her greatest accomplishment.
Born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in Pembroke, Ontario she was a child of the depression, with family circumstances that required her to grow up quickly. This spawned a resourcefulness, drive and independence that would form the cornerstones of the wonderfully full life that she lived. Like so many of that generation, her life was further transformed by World War II. Most notable was the day that she met the true love of her life on the tennis court …a young Lieutenant Alan J. McConvey.
The early years of Bev’s married life took her to several places, however being a Cobourgite was a source of great pride for her entire life. It was in this community that Beverly raised her family, built her business and cultivated hundreds of friendships. A tough and demanding personality, with an unparalleled enthusiasm and work ethic for bringing her ideas to life, she had a great gift for surrounding herself with exceptional people who she was fiercely loyal to.
Bev believed a stylish and well-dressed person was step one in making anything worthwhile happen. From sewing all of her kids clothes, to walking the runway for the Seven Seas, expanding women’s fashion in downtown Cobourg with Beverly’s Ladies Wear, and shipping her hand knit labours of love around the world, Bev spread her enthusiasm for being well dressed far and wide. The day before her death, she made heads turn when she entered the room sporting a well-pressed yellow dress and her signature pearls and red-pink lipstick.
Bev was predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years Alan Joseph McConvey (“until death do we part” never applied for her), her mom, Bea Clarke; sisters, Doreen (Bill) Skardudas and Louise Clarke; and in-laws, Ruth, Mary, D’Arcy (Margo), John, Carl and Margaret (Tom). She is survived by her children, Paul, Katherine, John, Karen and Margo together with their spouses; her special ten grandchildren, Michelle, Daniel, Alan Scott, Dillon, Tanner, Carter, Payton, Landon, D’Arcy and Grant; and her wonderful five great-grandchildren, Clark, Hollis, Faye Margot, Olivia and Lauren.
A visitation will take place at MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. East, Cobourg, Ontario on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, from 5 – 8pm. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Michael Catholic Church, 379 Division Street, Cobourg on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 10:00 AM. A Celebration will take place immediately following the funeral at The Mill Restaurant and Bar, 990 Ontario St, Cobourg.
