BETTY A. (LEMON) SMITH R.N.A., O.N.
The family of Betty Ann (Lemon) Smith sadly announce her death on August 20, 2022. Beloved wife of the late Alf Smith Sr. (2016). Dear Mother of Alf, Malcolm, Randy, Cameron and Ian. Grandmother (Nan) of Adam, Eric and Braydon Smith and Justin Cloet and Great-Grandmother of Austin and Jackson Smith. remembered by the “Girls” of the family – Carol, Roxanne, Alanna, Shannon, the late Robin (2019) and dear Karen (2020). A longtime resident of Burlington, Betty attended Central and BCHS. After graduation she worked for Nicholson &Cates. She later graduated as an R.N.A. honour student and Class Valedictorian and enjoyed working at Joseph Brant Hospital. After retiring from the hospital, she volunteered at Joseph Brant Museum, became a member of the Professional Anglican Women’s Unit, became President of the Thayendanega I.O.D.E and a volunteer with the Halton Literacy Council. In 1971, she returned to BCHS to take a refresher course of commercial subjects and then worked for 17 years in the offices of Morden and Helwig.
A committed Anglican, Betty and family attended St. Matthew’s, St. Christopher’s, and St. Luke’s – the Parish of her childhood. There she taught Sunday School, was Co-ordinator and President of St. Luke’s Co-op Nursery School, Member of the Diocesan Women’s Unit, held offices in the Executive Guild and A.C.W., was a Sunday Greeter and church minder and honoured recipient of the Order of Niagara(2004).
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street (one stop light north of city hall) on Thursday, September 1st at 3-6 p.m.
Service of Remembrance at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Burlington, on Friday, September 2nd at 10 a.m. followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Betty made to St. Luke’s Memorial Fund or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
Private family internment at St. Matthew’s on the Plains.
