Obituary
Bernice Ransom (Koch), of Nanton, Alberta passed away at the Silver Willow Lodge on March 7, 2002 at the age of 90 with her family by her side.
Bernice was born in Vulcan, Alberta. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Irene Koch. Bernice was predeceased by her loving husband Don in February, 2007.
Mom is survived by her three children: Glen (Leona), Deb and Kellie. Six grandchildren: Tasha (Karl), Tawnya (Curt), Mike (Carla), Tarah (Hans), Landon (Casey) and Shane (Shelby). As well as six great grandchildren: Larah (Mike), Morgan (Colten), Kailyn (Kyle), Reid, Maizie and Callie. Also, one very special great, great grandson: Trae.
She is also survived by her twin sister Beryl and younger sister Sylvia. Plus many nieces and nephews.
Bernice was also predeceased by her brothers Albert, Roy and Ernie: her sisters Pearl and Dorothy.
Bernice married Don Ransom on July 1, 1949. They spent virtually their whole married life living, farming, and raising their family northeast of Nanton before selling the farm in 1974. Mom worked a few jobs in Nanton, mainly seven years for Dell Todd at his grocery store and thirteen years at Don Morrison Bulk Esso before retiring.
But mom’s main job in life was her family. They were so important to her. Besides being a very good athlete herself, she was passionate about following her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to all their sporting endeavors. She was the ultimate grandmother superfan!
Mom loved to curl, golf, spending time at the Kozy Corner. Her and dad liked to get away traveling and camping with friends. She received her 50 year pin from the Nanton Legion Auxilliary. After moving into the Silver Willow Lodge later in life, she was very involved with the residents association while she was able.
The family would like to thank all the staff, management and doctors that cared for mom while she was a resident of the lodge. Especially the last years and weeks. There are no words to describe the care and compassion you extended to her. Thank you so much.
There will be a celebration of life for Bernice on Thursday, March 17 in the lower hall of the Nanton Community Centre from 2 to 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations may be made to Nanton Minor Hockey.
