Bernard Lawrence Williams 2022

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bernard L. Williams, 73, of Miramichi, on Aug 30, 2022. Bernard was born in Blackville, N.B., on August 30, 1949, to Sarah Francis (MacDonald) and Patrick Williams; he moved to Douglasfield at the age of four with his parents and siblings. He completed his education at Harkins High School and worked at REPAP for 36 years. During this time, Bernard also ran a successful vegetable farm and market for many years. Bernard had a great love for the outdoors and was happiest while working in his woodlots. In retirement, his passion became his sawmill, and he shared his lumber with many in the community.
Bernard was known for his love of music which he shared with his family and many choirs, including The Men of Harmony, The Villagers, and various church choirs.
Bernard was an active member of the community and had a great love of volunteering. He was on the board of directors for the Northumberland Coop. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr Egan Council 8381 and was a grand knight for a time. In the church community, he was involved in many committees over the years. He found great joy and friendship in the Cursillo movement.
Camp Sheldrake was a place very near and dear to Bernard’s heart. As a founding member of the board of directors, his vision and hard work helped to shape the camp from its beginnings. It was a pleasure for him to see all of his grandchildren attend and hear their stories and songs, and most of all see the joy and connection they made with each other. It was important to him to leave an ongoing legacy to the camp.
Bernard is survived by his loving wife Ellen (Glover), his three children, Jeff Williams (Chastity) of Miramichi, Sarah Crutcher (Rob) of Halifax, and Natalie O’Shea (Ryan) of Fredericton, and his seven grandchildren Kristen, Luke, Max, Nina, Liam, Abby and Amelia, who were his pride and joy. He also leaves behind his siblings Bob Williams of Nova Scotia, Debbie McEwen of Ontario; Kay Savoy, Patsy Bowie, Judy Doucette, Elizabeth Lynch, John Williams, Eileen Butler, Billy Williams, Danny Williams, and Theresa Johnson, all of Miramichi. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Bernice.
Bernard Lawrence Williams will be resting at Davidson’s Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, with visitation on Friday evening from 7-9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday September 3, 2022 at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Anthony Papu officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot of the church cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, donations to Camp Sheldrake would be appreciated.
