Bernadina “Diana Schouten 2022

Peacefully passed at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre on Thursday, November 24th, 2022 at the age of 63 years. Predeceased by her parents Aart and Adriana Schouten. Loving sister of Anna Van Donkelaar (Aart), Bert Schouten (Hendrica) and the late Jeanette Yates. Will be missed by her nephews and their families; Christopher, Aaron and Jonathan Van Donkelaar, David, Kevin and Michael Schouten and Justin Yates. Predeceased by her nephew Kyle Yates. Will be missed by her beloved cat, Kira, many extended family members and dear friends
It was sept 12, 1959, four and a half years after our family immigrated to Canada that Diana was born, the youngest of four children of Aart and Adriana.
Diana was a good student, and seemed to always have a desire to excel, after high school she entered the nursing program at Humber College and graduated as a Registered Nurse. From there she worked for a number of years in various fields, including surgical and palliative care. Later she became a member of Dr Bohnen’s team, as Clinical Research Coordinator in the field of Abdominal Infections.
She was physically very active as well, she participated in multiday bicycle trips, downhill skiing, sailing with friends on many a weekend, and even was a member of the aerobics exhibition team that was on the field at the opening of the Sky Dome.
Almost 30 years ago, a back injury started a slow but continuous deterioration in her health. Yet with all of her physical challenges she was able to keep a positive outlook. For her distraction she turned to arts and crafts, from folk art to painting to needlework to card making to quilling, to her latest passion, making paper flowers. She was always eager to share her passion with others
On November 24, the Lord took her home. We rejoice with her that she has been released from her pain and can now spend eternity with her Lord and Saviour.
Funeral Service will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church, 33 Shirley Ave., Barrie on Saturday, December 3rd, 2022 at 2 pm. Reception to follow inside the Church Hall.
