With heavy hearts but with the peace that passes all understanding Jeannette’s family announce her passing on Aug 30 after a short battle with cancer.
Jeannette is survived by George, her husband of 63 years, her children Jeffrey (Pat), Gordon (Cathryn), Barbara (Kirby) and Mark (Julie) and by her adoring grandchildren Andrew (Catreana), Michael, Marie-Louise, Trisha, Nathanael, Hannah, Emily (Keith), Daniel, Rebecca, Chloe (Moses), Maxwell and Rachel as well as her brother Victor (Maureen) and sister Juliana. Jeannette was predeceased by her parents Dmytro and Anna and her sister Marlene.
Jeannette was a “coal miner’s daughter”, born in Drumheller in 1938 where her father worked in the nearby mines. While still a young child, Jeannette’s family moved to Glendon where she spent her childhood and youth. In 1955, Jeannette moved to Edmonton to train as a teacher and, while so engaged, met George, who she married in 1959. Jeannette spent the next 30 years raising her family before returning to university to earn her B. Ed degree and resume her teaching career. Upon retirement, Jeannette and George enjoyed many years of travel (Palm Springs was a favourite), golfing (well, one of them) keeping up with the goings on of their extended family and, most importantly, spending as much time as possible at the Moose Lake cabin that was Jeannette’s pride and joy.
A celebration of Jeannette’s life is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 5 at North Pointe Community Church, 14025 – 167 Ave. Edmonton, Rev. Phil Doroshuk presiding.
Thank you to family and friends for the love and support during this difficult time.
Donations may be made in Jeannette’s memory to Moose Lake Pentecostal Youth Camp Society, or to the charity of one’s choice.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die”. John 11:25
