Audrey Hawkes
1935 – 2022
The family of Audrey June Hawkes are saddened to announce her passing on October 30, 2022, in Fort McMurray, Alberta at the age of 87 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Phylice Barry; grandsons, Chris (Suzanne) Barry (their children, Linden, and Mia), Steven (Ashley Paseska) Barry (their children, Kinsley and Brantley)
She was predeceased by her father, Edward Beale; mother, Thelma Beale; and son, Clifford Hawkes.
Audrey Hawkes, lovingly known as “Granny Hawkes” to all who knew her, came to Fort McMurray in the late 80’s to join her daughter and grandchildren and ended up falling in love with Fort McMurray and making it her home. During her many years here, you could always find her playing bingo or at Tim Horton’s where she volunteered every year for camp day or even at Save-On-Foods selling “hot chickens”. Her smile was familiar to many in town including many Firefighters and Police Officers who she always stopped to thank and give a hug for saving her life during her apartment fire in 2012. Granny lived a long and remarkable life. She loved her family, loved her friends, loved her community and her time spent in the Rotary House. She was grateful for all the connections she made over the years, and we know she will leave a lasting impression on all who knew and loved her.
Granny requested she not have a Funeral Service. Her only wish was to be cremated and have her ashes spread with her fathers in southern Alberta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Fort McMurray Rotary House.
