Audrey Emilie Furlong Duggan Monday October 24th 2022 avis de deces

(1925-2022)
Audrey, much loved mother of Sheila, Patricia (Lawrence Brownlee), Deirdre (Dan MacLellan), Gregory (Michelle Perry), Mark and Claire, passed away peacefully on October 24th . Born and raised in Timmins Ontario and third in a family of nine. She was sister to Frank, Elaine, Sherman, Jerome, Lawrence, Donald, Marie and Suniva.
Audrey attended Holy Family elementary school, run by the Grey Nuns, where her love of singing and winter skiing became life-long activities. Following her graduation from Timmins High School, she was employed by the Bank of Commerce before entering St. Michael’s Nursing School in Toronto where she graduated as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1946. Returning to the North, she worked in Timmins at St. Mary’s Hospital, the Iroquois Falls General, the Royal Edward Laurentian in St. Agathe and in pediatrics at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal. She returned to her nursing profession in the 70’s and worked as an RN at Starwood Extendicare in Ottawa.
On St. Patrick’s Day in 1951 at McGill University’s Newman Club, her future husband, John Furlong swept her off her feet. They were married for 52 years and had seven children, Sheila, Theresa (dec), Patricia, Deirdre, Gregory (dec), Mark and Claire. Audrey was a loving and supportive mother throughout her life. Audrey was passionate about art and in later years pursued her dream of becoming an artist. She enrolled at the University of Ottawa and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at age 68. She was also active with the Ottawa Art Association, participating in many art exhibits throughout the years, as well as serving as President.
Audrey encouraged music and the arts in her children, who in turn passed these gifts on to grandchildren Jacqueline and Nicholas Snapper, Kate Mason, Ivy and Robin Brownlee and Véla Furlong-Perry. She hopes that this creativity will live on in her great grandchildren Freyja and Malakai. Much thanks to Unitarian House, the Ottawa Hospital and Fairview Manor for their splendid health care and support.
Funeral Mass and reception will be held at St. Basil’s Church, 940 Rex Avenue, Ottawa, on Friday, November 4th at 11 am.
Donations to the CNIB, or Parkinson Canada appreciated or as Audrey wished “In lieu of flowers, plant a tree and think of me”.
