Arthur Stone 2022 avis de deces

It is with great sadness that Art’s family announces his unexpected but peaceful passing at Windsor Regional Hospital-Ouellette Campus on Nov. 9, 2022. Art was born in Oshawa ON, on May 9, 1930. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Norma and their daughter Diana Reid (Rod). His grandchildren are: Adam Leech (Melissa), Jonathan Reid, Matthew Reid, as well as, bonus grandchildren Michael Reid (Casey) and Stephanie Reid-Ambrose (Andrew) along with bonus great grandchildren Geoffery Rempel, Madeline Rempel, and Liam Wallace. He has a brother Ken Stone and Stone nieces and nephews in the Oshawa ON area. He has a sister-in-law Carleen Attersley and Attersley nieces and nephews in the Oshawa ON area. Art was predeceased by his sister-in-law Madeline Stone and brother-in-law Bob Attersley and sister-in-law Joan Attersley, and brother-in-law Neil Attersley.
Art met Norma Attersley at a high school dance and courted her for 3 years. They married on July 28, 1951 and celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this past July. They were always a loving and doting couple.
Art joined General Motors in Oshawa in 1948 as an elevator operator, worked on several clerical positions before being promoted to Supervisor in the Data Processing Dept. where he eventually became a Systems Analyst.
In that position, he transferred to Windsor in March 1965 to help install the computer procedures required for G.M’s Trim Plant, which was built in that city. In November of that year, the system was up and he was moved to Production Superintendent. Three years later he was promoted to Material Control Manager responsible for the Production Control, Material Control, Material Handling and Traffic Departments.
After his retirement in 1986 he worked as a consultant for the Garden State Tanning Co. (a leather products manufacturer, which sold its products primarily to the automotive industry). His job was to develop a system that would allow them to deliver those products to their customers on a “just in time” basis. That task was completed in 1989.
Art’s second retirement allowed him to spend more time on his hobbies which included: freelance writing (1000 plus articles published), golfing, travelling (especially to Florida), photography, and researching his ancestry. Also, he taught continuing education courses on Production and Material Control at St. Clair College for several years. In addition, he presented a one day seminar on freelance writing, at several Ontario colleges for a few years.
Art was always active in the community. While at G. M. he was Section Manager for several United Way campaigns. He was Treasurer of St. James Anglican Church for ten years followed by two five year terms as Warden. He was on the Board of Canterbury College for a couple of years, as well as, National Vice President of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Organization. More recently, he had been active on both the Council of Southwind’s Condominium and a Director of their board. He was a proudly Life Member of both the Kinsmen Club Association and the Es Golf and Country Club.
Most importantly, Art was an adored and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was very caring and supportive of his family. He was selfless and kind and imparted many important life lessons. His sense of humor was second to none, and he always had a quick witty reply. Please remember him with a smile!
The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Windsor Regional Hospital- Ouellette Campus Emergency and Palliative Care departments for their professionalism, compassion, and care.
If you so desire, donations may be made to the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Visiting Sunday, November 13, 2022 3-5pm and 7-9pm. Funeral Monday, November 14, 2022 at Families First, 3260 Dougall Ave. South Windsor, 519-969-5841. Cremation to follow.
