With family by her side, we are deeply saddened to announce the death of Annie Mae MacInnis (Matthews), which occurred Thursday, October 27th, 2022 at the Richmond Villa in St. Peter’s.
Born and raised in Grande Anse, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hilda (MacRae) Matthews.
At a very young age she left Cape Breton to work in Toronto. There she would meet the love of her life, the late Isaac MacInnis of Skye Glen. They first lived in Long Branch and eventually landed in Mississauga, Ontario raising a family where many fond memories were made.
Every summer there were trips back home to Cape Breton. She was a devoted wife, mother, and loved her grandchildren with a passion. She loved bingo and card games, and concerts, but not as much as Elvis Presley and her story at 3pm everyday.
In 1995 Annie and Isaac made the decision to go back home to Cape Breton and lived in Skye Glen, where there were many more great times with family and friends.
Annie is survived by her son Shane (Lisa); and her grandchildren Benjamin, Matthew, and Sarah, of Mississauga Ontario. Predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 52 years Isaac; son Darrell; and another son at birth.
She will be deeply missed by her sisters Irene, Ruth (Dilly), Emily, Judy (George); brothers, Jackie (Jewl), Duncan (Marlene), George (Florence) and Brian (Debbie); sister-in-law Marg: brothers-in-law David and Donald. She will be missed by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Helen Rehberg, Georgina Rose, Ethel MacRae, Bernice Pringle and brothers, Charlie, and Gerald Matthews.
We would like to express our thankfulness and appreciation for the love and care provided by everyone at the Richmond Villa for Annie.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a private graveside ceremony at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, Stewart United Church or to Skye Glen Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Dennis Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Whycocomagh.
