Obituary
Annie was the daughter of the late George and Irene (Stephenson) Craig. Born in Quebec City, she was raised on a farm in Stoneham, north of the city, with four siblings, and surrounded by uncles, aunts, and cousins.
She was introduced to a young soldier, Robert Kibblewhite, by the minister of her church, who also served as a chaplain at the base in Valcartier. They were married by Reverend Kidd, who had introduced them, on September 3, 1951, at the church next door to her home. After some time in Montreal where Bob completed his studies at McGill, they began a life on the move with frequent postings to various bases across Canada, and one two-year stint in Germany. Four daughters were born over the years, and in due course, six grandchildren arrived.
Annie worked as a secretary for many years, starting at the Department of Education in Quebec, after she graduated from Quebec High. After some time out for child-rearing, she rejoined the workforce when her younger children were in high school, working for various firms in Ottawa and Calgary.
Annie enjoyed reading and playing cards, especially six-handed Euchre, and Bridge. She excelled at crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and trivia, and games of Crokinole and Bonanza (on boards made by family members) were always popular. Outdoors, she loved camping and birdwatching.
Annie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She prepared tasty meals for dinner every night, and homemade cookies were usually available when her children were young. She crocheted many afghans and knitted countless mittens, hats, and sweaters for her children, grandchildren, and charities.
Annie was kind and patient and liked to laugh. A relative once commented that everyone always wanted to be around Annie because she was so much fun. She had a great sense of humour and enjoyed playful jokes, including those that were at her own expense. Annie’s faith was important to her, and she was a lifelong active member of the Anglican Church of Canada.
Predeceased by her husband, Bob; and her three brothers and their wives, William and Peggy Craig, Alfred and Shirley Craig, and John and Shirley Craig, Annie is survived by her sister Jean Howard (Bruce) of Guelph, Ontario, and Louise Knox (late Gerry) of Stoneham, Quebec; daughters Elaine Ladd (Ian) of Kingston Ontario, Kathy Kibblewhite of Calgary, Barb Williams (Geoff) of Calgary, and Gail Korchinski (Rob) of Calgary; and grandchildren Liz Ladd (Joe McLaughlin) of Montreal, Jane Ladd (Cedric Pepelea) of Kingston, Laurel Williams (James MacKenzie) of Calgary, Connor Williams of Calgary, Daniel Korchinski (Raelyn Sullivan) of Vancouver, and Jennifer Korchinski of Calgary.
