It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Anne Secord, age 82, on Friday, April 29, 2022.
Anne was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba on December 2, 1939 to Floyd and Elsa Wilson, the oldest of three children.
In December 1949, Anne’s family left the prairies and moved to Needles, B.C. but after a couple of years, had to leave their homestead there when the dam on the Arrow Lakes was built. In May 1951 they moved to the Jersey City townsite at the Emerald Mine above Salmo.
After graduating from high school, Anne moved to Trail. BC, where she had several different jobs until she became a bank teller at the Bank of Montreal, which is where she met her husband Bill, who was a postman in Trail.
They relocated to Avola, BC which is where they were living when their first two children were born. In 1967 they moved back to the Kootenays and Bill went to work for Placer Developments at the Emerald Mine. They had two more children while living up at the mine, and Anne ran a playschool there.
In 1973 the mine closed and Anne and family moved to Fraser Lake, BC where Bill went to work at Endako Mines and Anne went to work as a teller for CIBC. In Fraser Lake, Bill and Anne were both members of the curling club and Anne also loved to volunteer. Over the years, she volunteered with several different organizations, including the Fraser Lake Women’s Institute, the Fraser Lake Public Library, the Fraser Lake Historical Society and she was also a Girl Guides leader. When Bill retired, they moved out to Francois Lake and ran Birch Bay Resort for a few years before moving to Nelson, BC in 1989 and Anne went to work at the CIBC in Nelson.
Bill and Anne both loved to bowl and they were both volunteer Streetcar operators, which they really enjoyed. Anne continued her volunteer work, first with the Harrop Women’s Institute, and then with the Kootenay Lake Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid Bridge player and was also the treasurer for the Balfour Bridge Club and the Nelson Senior’s Bowling League.
Sadly, she lost Bill in 2004 but she continued staying busy with her volunteer work, Bridge playing, and spending time with her many grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Shelley, her daughters Michele, Laura (Orville), and Kathlyn (Dean), her grandchildren, Travis, Taylor, Sydney, Josh (Ann), Jesse, Ashley (Jesse), Amy (Chris), Aaron, Blaine, Brittani (Bryan), and Mandy (Jason), and great-grandchildren, Kaiden, Zoe, Angus, Summer, Daniel, Savannah, Alayna, Mazie, Jocelyn, Sarah, Isaac, Lyric, Phoenix, Haven, Zoe, and John.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Anne’s name to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation.
There will be a memorial tea on Saturday, May 14th at 2 pm at the Seniors’ Hall in Nelson.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Anne Secord December 2 1939
