Anne Gurski 2022

Anne’s Obituary
Anne Gurski passed away at St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK, on March 28, 2022, at the age of 90 years.
Anne was born to Mike and Mary (nee Mydan) Shuya on March 7, 1932, in Stenen, SK. The second of four children, she grew up with two brothers and one sister. She attended Spruce Grove School in the Hyas district. She enjoyed sharing stories about her childhood growing up on the family farm and helping with various chores. After she finished her schooling, she worked various jobs in Canora, including the Canora Dry Cleaners and Frank’s Department Store as a retail clerk.
Anne married Anton Gurski in 1955 in Canora, SK, making their home in Canora until 1971. They were blessed with two daughters, Jeanette and Joanne. In 1970, they purchased the MacLeod’s Store in Norquay, SK, and commuted until 1971, when they purchased a home in Norquay. They enjoyed their time fulfilling the needs of the community and surrounding areas through their business as they carried equipment, appliances, furniture, clothing, and everyday necessities. Anne and Anton enjoyed the time spent together building their dream. They were proactive in the community by helping with fundraising for various initiatives and organizations. They eagerly assisted in any way they could.
Anne was a hard worker – dependable, organized, determined – and was devoted to all her responsibilities at work and her home life. She was also a dedicated member of the Ukrainian Sacred Heart Church in Norquay.
In her spare time, Anne enjoyed knitting afghans, slippers, and later knitted fall cardigans for her grandchildren, which they wore with pride and were handed down from grandchild to grandchild and then to great grandchildren; they don’t make them like that anymore!
In retirement, Anne enjoyed crocheting dollies and tablecloths, which each grandchild was gifted with. Her favorite past-times included playing bingo, having a good game of canasta, and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed visits with family and friends, near and far, and her door was always open. Most near and dear to her heart, were her treasured grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished.
In June of 2019, Anne’s health was deteriorating, and she could no longer live on her own. She moved to the Norquay Health Center, where she continued to reside until December 2020. She then moved to St. Mary’s Villa in Humboldt, SK, where she remained a resident until her passing on March 28, 2022. Anne will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Anne was predeceased by her husband, Anton; parents, Mike and Mary Shuya; and brothers, John and Eugene.
She is survived by her daughters, Jeanette (Jim) of Norquay, SK, and Joanne (Sheldon) of Humboldt, SK; six grandchildren: Jamie (Kari) Predinchuk, Jennifer Predinchuk, Janice (Jeff) Sliva, Shilow Bennette, Justin Grywacheski, and Jordan Grywacheski (Autumn Lane); eight great-grandchildren: Ethan, Alexis, Mason, Jania, Casey, Tyce, Rylee, and Aksel; and sister, Rose (Lorne) Soloski of Saskatoon SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Eternal Memory.
In Anne’s honour, a Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2022, and the Funeral Liturgy celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 2, 2022, both from the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Norquay, SK, with Very Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK.
