Obituary
It is with sadness that the family of Anna Marta Wendel announce her passing on June 12, 2022 at the Gateway Lodge in Canora, Saskatchewan.
Anna was born in 1927 in Stockholm, Sweden to Nils and Marta Wendel. In 1929, at the age of two, Anna with her parents immigrated to Canada. They settled in Hyas, Saskatchewan, living there for nine years. Anna, with her sister Maj-Britt and their parents moved to Winnipeg in 1938. She resided there for the next 60 years. Anna worked in the drapery department at the Hudson’s Bay Co. store for 45 years. She joined two store bowling leagues, playing in many tournaments during the 1950s and 60s. She also enjoyed several trips to Minneapolis, Minnesota to watch opera performances. The trip of her lifetime was realized in 1967 when she went back to Sweden to visit family.
Anna loved cats, especially her cat Shelby, her companion for 15 years. In 1999, she moved to Canora, Saskatchewan to be closer to her sister Maj-Britt Oneschuk.
She was predeceased by sister Maj-Britt, brother-in-law Metro, and nephew Stephan. She leaves to mourn her passing a nephew Warren (Laura) Oneschuk of North Vancouver, BC and a niece Ruth Landin of Lethbridge, Alberta, as well as many grand nieces and nephews who she loved.
At her request there will be no services. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be in Winnipeg’s Brookside Cemetery beside her mother, at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If one wishes to donate to a cat shelter of their choice or the SPCA, it would be welcomed.
The family of Anna Marta Wendel would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Canora Gateway Lodge where she resided for 4 1/2 years for the excellent care she received.
