Ann Fulton
Gourley (Macintosh)
Surrounded by her family,
Ann passed away peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2022 in Colchester East
Hants Health Centre, Truro at the age of eighty years. Ann will be
lovingly remembered and cherished by her husband, John of fifty years;
children, Sarah (Andrew) Boyne; Alyson (Brad) Gourley-Cramer; and Jane
(Peter) Gourley-Davis; grandchildren, Lucy, Maeve, Sam, Matthew,
Abigail, Adam and Emily. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary,
brother, John and parents George and Mary Macintosh.
Born and raised a true Haligonian, Ann divided her
summers between the Waegwoltic Club and the Family’s cottage
at Jeddore. Ann pursued a career in dentistry, graduating in the
inaugural U of T dental hygiene class. After a time working in
Switzerland and travelling through much of Europe, Ann returned to
Nova Scotia to drive her own Mini Cooper as a dental hygienist for
Public Health. Ann met her husband John shortly after while teaching
at Dalhousie’s School of Dentistry, and the couple welcomed
children in Halifax, Montreal and Saskatoon and finally settled in
Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Ann involved the family in music and
theatre programs, as well as cross country skiing, tennis and West
Haven Summer Camp. Ann loved the outdoors and she loved Newfoundland.
A life-long learner, Ann explored her faith through bible study and
her involvement in the church, and would never shy away from a healthy
debate on a number of topics. In her retirement, Ann logged countless
hours in front of the television following the professional tennis
circuit, and soaked in the sea air on the Amherst Shore.
Ann didn’t seek the spotlight, but was always
able to lift the voices of others as a true alto, both in First United
Church Choir and Truro Cantabile Choir. With her seven grandchildren,
“Gramma” shared her warmth and undivided attention and will
never be forgotten. Her quiet wisdom was a source of comfort and
support for her family and friends.
For
anyone who was fortunate enough to know her, it was clear that she
embodied all that is right and good in the world. We will feel her
presence in the songs we hear, the salt in the ocean and the sands of
the Amherst Shore.
